
Failure is oddly fashionable in the creative industries – people regularly like to talk about the need to ‘fail harder’ or ‘fail better’, in a paraphrasing of Samuel Beckett’s famous quote.
But the experience of actual failure is usually far more painful and difficult than these pithy quotes suggest, as we discovered when we recently talked to five of our Creative Leaders 50 about how they have coped with failure in their own lives and work, and how they help those they work with to go through it.
In this podcast, CR’s editors Patrick Burgoyne, Eliza Williams and Rachael Steven discuss what was revealed in these conversations, alongside debating the pros and cons of the recent new visual identities unveiled by BBC 2 and Channel 4’s digital channels.
